Softlite Mad Lab – Hybrid Performance Meets Softboard Fun!

The Mad Lab is our  premium softboard that fuses high-performance design with the forgiving nature of a soft top. Built for versatility, it’s designed to perform across a wide range of conditions and suit almost any skill level.

For the beginner or intermediate, the Funboard template still offers plenty of paddle power and stability, while the extra stiffness from the hybrid construction helps generate more speed and flow down the line.

For the experienced surfer, the refined rails, thinner profile, and pulled-in nose and tail (compared to most other softboards) deliver a responsive, rippable ride that thrives in steeper or higher-quality waves.

Key Features:

✅ Hybrid Construction – Combines a stringered EPS core wrapped in fibreglass cloth, wood veneer deck reinforcement, and epoxy resin, all encapsulated within a soft EVA deck skin and HD slick. This results in a stiffer board for improved speed, responsiveness, and overall performance.

✅ CNC-Shaped Performance Template – A true in-between shape bridging the gap between a Shortboard and a Mini-Mal, with hints of Fish DNA. Easy paddling and forgiving when ridden bigger, but lively and fast when pushed by advanced riders.

✅ Textured EVA Deck – Full-length crocodile-style deck pattern provides excellent traction. Only a light wax is needed every few surfs.

✅ Single Tab Fin System – Simple to install and compatible with most single-tab fins, allowing you to fine-tune performance for different conditions.

✅ Balanced Rocker & Refined Rails – High widepoint and generous chest volume make it easy in smaller surf, while a touch more rocker in the nose and tail keeps it composed in steeper waves.

Fins are included, so you’re ready to surf straight out of the box.

Note on Comfort: The wax free EVA materials can occasionally cause skin irritation during extended sessions. For maximum comfort, we recommend wearing a wetsuit for protection against this.

We do not ship to PO Boxes, Post Offices, or Parcel Collect addresses as the boards exceed their accepted sizes. Please provide a valid residential address, or alternatively, a work address or a friend/relative's home.

We Offer Free Shipping on All Full-Price Softboards* (including bags & leashes when purchased with boards. 

Sale Softboards (Flat Rate by State) - Small shipping surcharge applies.

Larger Items under $150 - $18 Flat Rate -  (e.g., Neo 38" boards, board bags, other large items)

  • Orders are usually dispatched within 24–48 hours, depending on current order volume.

    MAD LAB KEY FEATURES

    HYBRID CONSTRUCTION STYLE

    The Mad Lab uses stringered EPS Core, wrapped in fibreglass cloth, wood veneer deck reinforcement & epoxy resin, which is then encapsulated by a traditional Softboard EVA Deck Skin and HD Slick.

    The result is a board that is considerably stiffer which increases the speed you are able to generate from your bottom turn and maintain through turns.

    It also allows us to make them a touch thinner which aids in increasing responsiveness and manoeuvrability.

    CNC SHAPED PERFORMANCE TEMPLATE

    This Model uses a Funboard style which can best be described as an 'in-between' shape between a Short board shape and a Mini Mal. It even has a few characteristics of a fish shape in there...

    Ridden a little bigger it is suitable for beginners, while a slightly pulled in and thinned out nose and tail makes it a pretty rippable board for experienced riders.

    Similarly a high widepoint and generous thickness around the chest will help it in small weak waves, while a little extra nose and tail rocker means it will be manageable in steeper waves too.

    Overall, it is an extremely versatile and suitable for a wider variety of skill levels and wave conditions.

    TEXTURED DECK

    This is probably a little more for comfort and convenience than performance, but we've added a full length, textured EVA deck. This helps to ensure you are never short of traction and only a minimal amount of wax is ever required - a light wax every couple of surfs should do!

    SINGLE TAB FIN SYSTEM

    This ensures it is easy to install and remove fins, and is compatible with other Single Tab Fins, allowing you to change your fins to suit conditions or alter board performance.

    Needs some refining

    This board is very close to being just right. But the lack of some rocker and the 3 inches of thickness hold it back from being able to step it up to a performance midlength. Turns bog easily and and it very hard to get on rail with all the foam up the front.
    Still a fun board, bad sadly can't rip on it.
    2 1/2 - 2 3/4 would make the difference.
